A landmark build for and by the neighborhood

City of Antwerp

The ‘Brederodestraat’ is the throbbing heart of one of Antwerp’s most flourishing neighbourhoods. However over the years a fresh, updated neighbourhood vibe was needed. Since it’s such a diverse and multicultural neighbourhood, it’s safe to say that the one thing the inhabitants have in common is, they all share the same neighbourhood! With “Brederode” being the one element that unites them, we decided to let the design revolve around this very word. Taking our ideas straight from the drawing board to the streets, asking inhabitants how they felt about their future landmark. After interviewing 300 people, a clear winner was found. Their favorite: large letters that could also serve as comfortable benches.
